St. Joseph Novena

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most Loving of Fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us.

Amen

Angel in the Waters

Angel in the Waters,by Regina Doman, Sophia Institute Press

This simple book chronicles the life of a baby in the womb and the months that follow the child’s birth. Angel in the Waters would make a wonderful gift for children, parents and Crisis Pregnancy Centers. The book may be previewed at http://www.angelinthewaters.com/

Little Flowers St. Therese Meeting

We held our Little Flowers first meeting of the year at Point Defiance once again.  The girls colored in a picture of St. Therese, decorated tote bags to hold their binders, ate lunch, sang Marian songs, and visited with each other.

In retrospect, the tote bag should have been a craft that we did during our first year of Little Flowers. Hopefully, next year we will be able to process through the Rose Garden, singing Marian songs again.

May God bless the Little Flowers!

There's a Wocket in My Pocket

My son enjoys reading this book with me. Reading the story together provides a great way to familiarize young children with rhyming words and teach them the correct pronunciation of sounds.

Barry, the Bravest St. Bernard

Barry: The Bravest Saint Bernardby Lynn Hall, Random House Step into Reading, Step 5

This is a wonderful true-life story about the St. Bernards at the Great St. Bernard Monastery in the Pennine Alps (located between the valley of Aosta and the Swiss canton of Valais). The story focuses on a dog named Barry, who rescued more than 40 people from avalanches. My children (ages 3, 5, and 6) listened intently as they learned of the relationship between Barry, the boy who trained him, and the Augustinian monks.

The Facts of Life

Peggy Ga. provided an article on the connection between abortion and breast cancer.

Christine B. reminded parents that if they are discussing the birthing of a baby or “the facts of life" with their children to ask them not to share the information with other children, as that responsibility belongs to a child’s parents.

She also recommended Fr. John Hardon’s tape set, Catholic Sexual Morality. The tapes cover the following topics with faithful adherence to the teachings of the Catholic Church:
  • Elevation of Chastity by Jesus Christ
  • Christianity and Sexual Pleasure
  • Psychology and Christian Chastity
  • Sexual Pleasure Outside of Marriage
  • The Morality of Sex Stimuli
  • Modesty and Prudence
  • Prayer and Chastity
  • The Eucharist and Chastity
  • Confession and Growth in Chastity
  • Chastity and Sanctity
  • Chastity and the Pro-Life Movement
  • Chastity and Eternal Life
This tape set and others are available from Eternal Life, www.lifeeternal.org, for $35.00 plus shipping.

Happy Times in Noisy Village

Happy Times in Noisy Village, by Astrid Lindgren, Bethlehem Books

Since learning about the children of “Noisy Village” a few years ago, they have found a special place in our home. Catherine loves reading about the antics of these lively Swedish children who live on three adjacent farms in a small village. This book (reprinted by Bethlehem Books in the Fall of 2003) and The Children of Noisy Village make great read alouds for the entire family.
